Tuesday 23rd June - Lilleshall Invitation XI vs Thomas Telford School Staff
We enjoyed fantastic weather to entertain the staff from Thomas Telford at last night's Twenty20 fixture. Batting first, Thomas Telford got away to a modest start but their running between the wickets kept the score board moving. Wickets fell steadily although an eight man slip cordon failed to take the wicket of Lilleshall coach Mark Hudson (playing for TTS) as he nervously edged his first ball between the two gullies who conspired to spill the ball between them with fellow coach Andrew Ball the prime culprit diving across in front of Will Hudson - thus robbing him of the chance to dismiss his Dad! Towards the end of the innings, Thomas Telford piled on the runs to finish on a very respectable 127 off their twenty overs.
Lilleshall started strongly but wickets fell early, a solid contribution by Rob Bagshaw kept Lilleshall in the hunt and a stellar batting performance by Hayley Robinson, the Lilleshall (wo)man of the match by a long chalk, should have been enough to see us home but as batting partners conspired to disappoint at the other end, even Hayley's supreme efforts left Andrew Ball and Drew Wrighton chasing a rapidly disappearing target! Thomas Telford bowled well throughout and limited the singles which prevented LIlleshall's more agressive batsmen from dominating the strike and they ran out eventual winners by a comfortable margin.
Our thanks to Mark Hudson and Richard Todd for organising the fixture, Greg and his team for another classic Lilleshall strip and finally to Thomas Telford for supplying and cooking the excellent barbequed food. We hope everyone enjoyed the proceedings and look forward to 2010.
Shropshire Cricket Board Summer Camps
These have now been announced with dates and venues across Shropshire, there is one camp for children (ages 9-14) and a separate one for girls (age 9-14), although the venues and dates are the same for both which is slightly confusing. Prices cost £50 for four days (Children) and £55 for four days (Girls), with individual days at £14 and £16.50 respectively. Quite why the extra cost for the girls I have no idea - enquiries and applications to Shropshire Cricket Board (01952 265676) please and not to me.
Dates with venues near to Lilleshall are:
St Georges (3rd August);
Shifnal (17th August); and
Wellington (24th August)
Please click on the following links to find more details about the girl's camp, childrens camp and the application form (which is the same for both).
